This mix is dedicated to my man Mo Nunez aka Mosart212 - his ‘La Moda’ mixtapes really inspired me to get funky with this one. It’s strange. It’s weird. Most importantly, it’s full of some rare and well known gems - tracks I never get tired of no matter how many times they come up on the Itunes Shuffle.
Perfect for a chilled out purple sunset, the 9-5 work day, or to keep on hand when you’re looking for audio that complements the finer things of our ephemeral human existence.
Soul, indie-electronica, jazz, hip-hop, alternative rock, bossa-nova, even some bollywood - it’s all here! My aim was to mix this one as smoothly as possible - done in one take on the turntables. If you’ve been following my Tumblr, Twitter or SoundCloud lately, you’d know that I’m really getting into Moombahton. It combines the best elements of electronic music at a slowed down, bouncy tempo (approx. 104-110 bpm’s). Everything from the drum programming to the way the sounds are layered make it the perfect danceable yet chill-worthy “it” genre of the summer.
Philly Favorite DJ APT-ONE contributed to a recent Moombahton compilation:
After giving it a couple listens, I realized his track, Fich So Saxy was one of my favorite cuts off of the EP. Everything from the intro drums to the synths and sax samples, this single is auditory sex.
I play a lot of Top 40 gigs, and as much as I love the sound of Moombahton (and other “not-so-cool” genres) I was having trouble incorporating it into my sets. I decided to make a couple Top 40 friendly moombahton edits to aid me in this, but out of all my moombahton remixes thus far, this one takes the care.
Rump Shaker by Wreckx n Effects is without a doubt a Hip-Hop Party Anthem (interesting fact: it was produced by Pharrell of NERD / Neptunes fame!) that gets bodies moving.
Combined with Apt-One’s Fich So Saxy, it becomes a sexy, fun, groovy moombahton jam for the outdoor patio gigs as the sun is setting. CHECK IT:

As a working DJ - it’s my job to get whatever crowd I’m playing for amped, excited and dancing. As much as I dislike most top40/club jams, my chosen part-time profession dictates that I must compromise on personal choice from time to time. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll play some Katy Perry - but my atypical (and most enjoyable) sets contain everything from synthpop& nu-disco jams, indie rock classics, old school hip-hop, a dash of french house, some electro and usually some Motown.
